HISTORY BEGINS WITH US!
In June 2017, Tequila Smith, Shonda Johnson, and Aisha Reese were together at a birthday party. They discussed their mutual undergraduate experience in the Iota Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. The discussion developed into inquiries about a possible chapter in Trussville. The trio discussed the benefits of becoming prominent leaders in the community.
These young women organized an initial meeting of like-minded women at Buffalo Wild Wings in Trussville. At the initial meeting, 17 women were in attendance, and they committed to forming a chapter.
In May 2020, the group submitted an application to become an official interest group to the 26th South Eastern Regional Director, Madam Mitzi Dease Paige, Esq. The group, the Progressive Pearls of Trussville, had grown from 17 to 40 members. Madam Regional Director Mitzi Dease Paige set a date for her initial visit as virtual due to the pandemic.
On September 13, 2020, the group made history as the first interest group to have a virtual visit from Regional Director Mitzi Dease Paige, Esq. Consequently, November 19, 2020, the group became an official interest group, The Progressive Pearls of Trussville, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. While functioning as an interest group, the Progressive Pearls of Trussville, completed programs, networked in the community, and raised over $6,000. The Progressive Pearls of Trussville received the news on November 21, 2021, that the Directorate voted to accept the interest group as an official chapter.

Consequently, June 5, 2022, the Progressive Pearls of Trussville transitioned to Alpha Beta Xi Omega, an official chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.
